Georges River Council Launches Summer Events Program

24 Nov 2016

Georges River Council has launched its 2016/17 Summer Events Program which kicks off from December.

Georges River Council’s Administrator, John Rayner, said: “Council’s summer events calendar has grown to be hugely popular with local people and visitors from across Sydney.”

“Each event promises to be a great day out for the whole family to enjoy. I encourage everyone to take part in the free events within the Georges River area.”

“I would also like to thank our generous sponsors and stakeholders who enable us to host this vibrant and exciting events program.”

Hosted in venues across the region, the events are designed to bring local people together to participate in free events within their community.

The event program begins with an evening of festive fun at Magic of Christmas on Saturday 10 December in Carss Bush Park. This annual family event features seasonal stalls, live shows and a special appearance from Santa and Mrs Claus.

For over 25 years, Council’s Australia Day Festival has been a popular and vibrant family celebration. The event showcases great live music, diverse cultural performances, entertainers, market stallholders and concludes with a spectacular firework display over Kogarah Bay.

Council will welcome the Year of the Rooster by hosting a number of fantastic and colourful events across both Hurstville and Kogarah.

The 2017 Lunar New Year Festivals will feature colourful dragons, community performances and vibrant market stalls at both locations.

There will also be a number of activities held across Council’s libraries and Museum to further celebrate Lunar New Year including the signature Lunar New Year Exhibition, Wu Xing. The exhibition explores the Chinese theory of the ‘five elements’ – wood, fire, earth, metal and water.
